Max Blustin is a British film director.

Max’s short films have screened at over eighty festivals worldwide, including Oscar, BAFTA, AACTA and Canadian Screen Award qualifying events. They have been acquired for broadcast and theatrical distribution by companies including Shorts International, Canal+, Canal Spain and Interfilm.

Max was the first of four filmmakers selected from 1,103 applicants to receive production funding through Japanese publisher Kodansha’s Cinema Creators’ Lab. The resulting film, Sage, stars Lesley Joseph (Birds of a Feather) and has screened at festivals from Tokyo to the Bahamas, including Oscar and BIFA qualifiers. It has won Jury Prizes at Australia’s Port Shorts Film Festival and Venezia Shorts.

Sorceress, starring Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones, the Fast & Furious franchise) and Jane Danson (Coronation Street), was selected for the Oscar-qualifying Woodstock Film Festival, as well as the Vancouver International, Ashland Independent and Rome Independent film festivals. It was also one of five shortlisted films in the UK’s 2018 Film the House competition, voted for by Members of Parliament.

A Magician was selected for festivals across the US, South Korea, Europe and the UK. It won a Gold Kinsale Shark and the Grand Prize at the 19th Très Court Film Festival in Paris, from an initial field of nearly 3,000 films.

The History of Chance premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Raindance Film Festival and won the Grand Prize at the Canada International Film Festival, coming first out of nearly 1,000 initial entries. It had its television premiere as an editor’s pick on Shorts TV.

Max has also written a television series for producer Ileen Maisel’s (The Golden Compass, Ripley’s Game, Romeo and Juliet) Amber Entertainment.
